How to choose a proper kitchen hood?
The major features while choosing the hood are installation, airflow rate and filter.

Flat hoods are installed above the cooker or under a cabinet.

Integrated hoods are installed into the cabinet above the cooker and only the lower part is visible.

Integrated telescopic hoods: motor case is installed into a cabinet and only the extension part is moved forward.

Insular hoods are mounted on the ceiling.

Detached hoods are mounted on the wall.

Air flow rate is also important. The air must change 12 times in one hour. Multiply the length, height and width of your kitchen and then multiply it by 12. The resulting figure is the air flow.

I recommend to choose a hood with the air flow rate for a room +30%. Then, working at part of its power the hood will serve longer.

As for the hood’s width, you can choose from sizes 50-120 cm. The hood must be installed not lower than 75 cm from a gas cooker and 60-70 cm from electric cookers
How should I clean my hood?
Painted Hoods (non-stainless steel hoods)
Black and white hoods can be cleaned using a damp sponge or cloth and hot soapy water. Windex® can also be used.

Stainless Steel Hoods
You can use any retail stainless steel cleaner to clean and polish your stainless range hood. Examples are: Stainless Steel Magic®, Zep®, Bar Keepers Friend ®, WD-40®, Goo-Gone Orange Spray®, Cerama Bryte Stainless Cleaner® or Whirlpool® brand stainless cleaner. Do not use Windex® or other ammonia based cleaners on stainless steel.

Never use chlorine bleach, or any product that contains bleach on a stainless surface, as the hood could be permanently discolored. Never use abrasive cleaners or scrub pads, or alcohol-based cleaners.

When wiping or polishing the hood, always wipe with the grain of the stainless steel. A soft cloth and hot soapy water can also be used for cleaning the stainless steel hoods. Microfiber cloths are excellent for removing fingerprints and smudges in between cleanings.
How to clean grease filters?
Aluminum mesh Grease filters can be washed in the dishwasher. After running the filters through a dishwasher cycle, the filters should be placed in a drying rack over night to make sure all water is gone from the inside of the filter. They should be cleaned at least once a month, and more frequently depending on usage. If there is heavy grease build up on the filters, then place the filters in a pan of hot soapy water and soak the filters.
Can I vent my hood through the side of the house, instead of through the ceiling?

The recommended distance from the bottom of the range hood to the cooking surface is 26"~30" for under the cabinet and wall mount style hoods, 30"~36" for island hoods and 30"~36" for Dual Blower (1200 CFM) hood.
